Ontario is further expanding vaccine eligibility for seven health units in COVID-19 Delta variant hot spots, announced Health Minister Christine Elliott on Thursday. This is the variant first detected in India.

Starting June 14 at 8 a.m. ET, residents in Toronto, Peel, York, Halton, Waterloo, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph and Porcupine health units who received their first shot on or before May 9 can book an appointment for a second dose.

Ontario is set to enter Step 1 of reopening on Friday.

Step 1, primarily allowing more outdoor settings and retail with restrictions, was set to begin as soon as 60 per cent of all eligible Ontario adults had received their first COVID-19 vaccine doses. However, as of June 7, more than 72 per cent of Ontario adults have received at least one dose.

Ontario is reporting 590 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The provincial total now stands at 538,077.
