Accusations that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s sexually harassed women on the job are “disgusting,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday.

De Blasio, briefing reporters on the coronavirus situation in the city said the harassment allegations and accusations of undercounting virus deaths connected to the state’s nursing homes inhibits his ability to govern.

“These are very serious allegations,” de Blasio said. “If you can’t maintain that trust, you can’t govern.”

Cuomo, a fellow Democrat, has not been seen in public since new details of the sexual harassment complaints became public last week.

“I think all leaders have to answer tough questions from the media, regardless of whether it’s convenient,” de Blasio said.

De Blasio says the governor’s inaction is getting in the way of an effective response to the pandemic: “A way to move everything forward is to restore local control.”

The mayor says he puts faith in local leaders to deal with the state’s fiscal issues: “I think they will keep things running, even while the governor deals with these scandals.”
