7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “NSW people could be able to check domestic violence convictions of their partners | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
People across New South Wales could soon be able to check if their partner has a previous domestic violence conviction. The “right to know” scheme was trialled in parts of the state in 2016 and received mixed reviews.
The state government says if it wins the upcoming election it will be extended statewide with some changes. People will now be able to access the information through a hotline or website rather than having to go to a police station.
There will be strict privacy controls in place – to make sure people aren’t misusing the information.
