NSW education minister announces review into teacher’s wages | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “NSW education minister announces review into teacher’s wages | 7NEWS” – below is their description.

The NSW education minister is vowing to re-model the way that teachers get paid in an effort to keep them in the classroom.

At Kings Langley Public School today, minister Sarah Mitchell outlined a review, which will be led by teaching expert professor John Hattie, that could see teachers given significant financial incentives for excellent teaching.

While the details and timeline for the review are vague, the government believes it will help to keep teachers away from higher paying jobs with the education system facing a massive shortage of teachers with many thousands more forecast to leave the profession over the next few years.

But, the teachers federation says the announcement of the review is a diversionary tactic to distract teachers from the current pay crisis. It also said this morning’s announcement is eerily similar to an existing policy to incentivise teachers with bonus payments for better teaching which has only been taken up by around 300 teachers since it was introduced a decade ago.
