NSW COVID-19 Emergency Update: “To 8pm last night, we had 170 cases in the community. Unfortunately, at least 42 of those were infectious for the time. And, obviously that is the number we need to see come down” – NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
Of the locally acquired cases announced today, 77 are linked to a known case or cluster – 61 are household contacts and 16 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 93 cases is under investigation.
There have been 2,980 locally acquired cases reported since the 16th June 2021, when the first case in the Bondi cluster was reported.
There are currently 187 COVID-19 cases in hospital, with 58 people in intensive care, 24 of whom require ventilation
Of the 170 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 87 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 32 are from Western Sydney LHD, 32 are from Sydney LHD, 13 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, four are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD and two are from Northern Sydney LHD.
