North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un attended the mass funeral of a top official on May 22, 2022, according to state media KCNA. Amid the country’s first reported outbreak of Covid-19, he was the only official not wearing a mask to the funeral of Hyon Chol-hae, the late marshal of the Korean People’s Army. Pyongyang acknowledged a national outbreak of Covid-19 on May 12, 2022, with 2.8 million people reportedly falling ill with ‘fevers’ since late April.
