According to The Australian, Swan has previously described AstraZeneca as a ‘second rate vaccine’, so it’s not very nice to feel condemned to an inferior option, even if he has done an about turn recently. I daren’t have the AstraZeneca as my mother had a massive blood clot in her brain when she was forty and was left permanently disabled followed by dementia. Since the etiology was unknown, I have no way of knowing if I have a genetic vulnerability. Dr Swan has been thundering from his pulpit on ABC saying that the over sixties are not going to get Pfizer, so stop waiting for it because you are at the back of the queue. It turns out now that in some states we can have it, so he was incorrect. I guess all this insulting bluster about ‘boomer entitlement’ is a response to being wrong.
Hang in Jane! I truly believe the rest of the states will have to step up. At some point it will happen. In the meantime, stay safe.
Swans comments were an absolute disgrace. He also said phizer would be wasted on on over 60s. Over 60s are being subjected to blatant age discrimination being the only age group not given a choice of vaccine. Apparently were entitled boomers because we choose not to take the risk, however small, of death or permanent disability from an Astrazeneca clot. These are appalling comments from anyone, let alone a doctor.
Robyn and Jane, thank you for your comments. I have been fascinated by how few people are concerned about over 60’s right to choose now that Pfizer is here. What a sad indicator. Can you imagine Swan making this aggressive statement about any other age group? ‘Entitled? Wasting Pfizer’!? The presenters had no response to this outrageous statement whatsoever. Was this condoning it?
Having high blood pressure for 4 years now, I should qualify for Pfizer in NSW. Yet even though I was able to make a Pfizer appointment online at my doctor’s surgery, they changed it from Pfizer to AstraZenica without my knowledge. I’ve since cancelled the appointment, however, this disregard for our human rights frightens me. For the first time since it all began, I’m fearful of what’s happening around this virus, and how the powers that be can disregard our right to choose what risk we take with our own bodies.
