Eight years ago, the US elected a black president. Barack Obama never promised to eliminate racism overnight, but so many believed that his election was a milestone on the road to a “post-racial” society. Yet overnight in Charlotte, protesters blocked a major highway, 12 police were injured after yet another shooting death of an African-American amid contradictory claims over whether the victim posed a threat. We’ll look at events there and how they’re perceived amid changing political winds in the United States.
