The curtain is set to rise again on live theatre but it is a state-by-state proposition.
In September, the State Theatre Company South Australia (STCSA) will blow away the cobwebs and dim the house lights for a new production of the classic noir thriller Gaslight.
The season at the recently refurbished ornate Her Majesty’s Theatre in Adelaide will be the first professional theatre show to open since Australia’s live entertainment sector was shut down due to coronavirus in March.
STCSA artistic director Mitchell Butel said Gaslight had been made possible because of the extremely low rate of community transmission in South Australia.
Rehearsals will begin in August for a September 4 opening night, and preliminary ticket sales have been strong.
“Netflix is wonderful and all that jazz but there is nothing like sharing performance with a community and so to see people really want to do that is thrilling and exciting”, he said.
