The Transport Secretary has refused to give a date on when Britons can go abroad on holiday.

Meanwhile, Grant Shapps defended heavy penalties for passengers who give false information at UK borders.

Under new measures, anyone who tries to conceal they had been in a “red list” country will face up to 10 years in prison.

Mr Shapps described the long jail sentence for those who lie about their travel at the UK border as “appropriate”.
