#UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths told journalists during a briefing on Monday that humanitarian ceasefires in #Ukraine are “not on the horizon right now” but they may be in a couple of weeks. Griffiths will travel to #Turkey this week to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on hosting humanitarian talks between Russia and Ukraine. On the prospects for a ceasefire, Griffiths pointed to the example of #Yemen, where warring sides have implemented a two-month truce.

Ukraine is a large country in Eastern Europe known for its Orthodox churches, Black Sea coastline and forested mountains. Its capital, Kiev, features the gold-domed St. Sophia’s Cathedral, with 11th-century mosaics and frescoes. Overlooking the Dnieper River is the Kiev Pechersk Lavra monastery complex, a Christian pilgrimage site housing Scythian tomb relics and catacombs containing mummified Orthodox monks.
Yemen, officially the Republic of Yemen, is a country at the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is the second-largest Arab sovereign state in the peninsula, occupying 527,970 square kilometres. The coastline stretches for about 2,000 kilometres.
