Sky News published this video item, entitled “Newspapers delayed by Extinction Rebellion: ‘The billionaire press is anti-climate action’” – below is their description.
Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Donnachadh McCarthy said the printing sites of the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Times were targeted because the group wants their “tax haven billionaire owners” to “take climate change seriously”. He accused the Murdoch-owned Sun of supporting fracking and a reduction in taxes for fossil fuel companies. “For the last 45 years Murdoch, Rothermere, and the Barclay brothers have been heard over and above everybody else,” he said. More than 60 people have been arrested during protests by the climate activists outside two printing presses – which have led to a delay in some newspapers hitting stands.
