South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “New Zealand’s first openly transgender Olympian competes in Tokyo Games” – below is their description.
Laurel Hubbard made history on August 2, 2021, by becoming the first openly transgender weightlifter to take part in the Olympic Games. The New Zealander competed in the women’s +87kg category at the Tokyo Games, but made a sudden exit after failing to record a lift. Born male but transitioned to female in her 30s, Hubbard was allowed to compete in the women’s event by a 2015 International Olympic Committee (IOC) consensus.
