New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern delayed a key step toward next month’s general election after the discovery of new COVID-19 cases in more than three months. Emergence of new cases has ended that record run, and the country’s biggest city re-enters lockdown.
There were lines outside the city’s supermarkets and test centers as Auckland moved back into Level-3 lockdown. The alert level only allows for essential trips out of home. Officials say they’re investigating the possibility the virus was re-introduced on the surface of cargo brought in from overseas.
