New Year Honours: 12-year-old Max honoured for hospice fundraising

Sky News published this video item, entitled “New Year Honours: 12-year-old Max honoured for hospice fundraising” – below is their description.

Max Woosey has been awarded the British Empire Medal for his fundraising efforts for North Devon hospice. He has raised more than £600,000 by sleeping in a tent for more than 600 nights.

Max’s neighbour was treated in the hospice and gave him the tent. Max says there were a few times he thought about giving up, but he has stuck with it – and he’s still sleeping in the tent.

He and his father Mark spoke to Jonathan Samuels.

In This Story: British Empire

The British Empire was the dominions, colonies, protectorates, mandates, and other territories ruled or administered by the United Kingdom and its predecessor states. It began with the overseas possessions and trading posts established by England between the late 16th and early 18th centuries.

Fourteen overseas territories remain under British sovereignty.

After independence, many former British colonies joined the Commonwealth of Nations, a free association of independent states. The United Kingdom is now one of 16 Commonwealth nations, that share a monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II.
