7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “New Sydney Football Stadium, Indigenous artist Tony Albert explains his designs | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
Sydneysiders have less than a month to wait before getting a look at the upgraded Sydney Football Stadium.
Indigenous artist Tony Albert designed the seating plan with the colours and patterns telling a story of the local Indigenous community. A ‘water’ theme is at one end of the stadium, ‘land’ at the other, and a ‘confrontation’ theme in the middle.
A bumper community day is planned for the stadium’s grand opening, headlined by a star of Australian music.
The 45,500-seat venue will be opened to the public for the first time on Sunday 28th August when the stadium hosts a community day. Performers booked for the community day include Guy Sebastian and Baker Boy.
Jason Coleman, the man behind the Sydney Olympic opening ceremony, will spearhead the event which will see thousands of people get together with players from rugby league, union and soccer.
The first football game to be played at the new stadium will see the Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs clash in a local derby on Friday 2nd September.
The Wallabies will then take on the reigning Rugby World Cup winners South Africa on Saturday 3rd September and the Matildas will host Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medal winners Canada on Tuesday 6th September in an international friendly.
