Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said last night was “very emotional” when the border restrictions were eased between the country’s two biggest states. New South Wales has reopened its border with Victoria – after 15 weeks of being closed – making it the only state in Australia to welcome residents from all jurisdictions around the country and New Zealand. Officials removed the border checkpoint which divided the twin towns of Albury and Wodonga for several months, as well as 26 other border town checkpoints along the Murray River. “It’s been pretty exciting, a very emotional night really,” Mr Mack told Sky News. Mr Mack said it’s now about the recovery for the regional towns and ensuring mental health is “on track”.
