An international law enforcement operation against organised criminal activity has resulted in mass arrests and struck what Scott Morrison describes as a “heavy blow” against crime gangs. The AFP-led Operation Ironside has led to the arrest of 224 offenders on 526 charges in every mainland Australian state.

“This is an operation that the Intelligence and Security Committee, as a bipartisan group, has taken great interest in – insofar that we are considering legislation, that is currently before the committee, to how we can further support strengthen and support the work that our national security agencies do to keep Australians safe, particularly safe from the scourge of illicit, imported drugs.” – Kristina Keneally – Shadow Home Affairs Minister
