ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “New hope that a dedicated coroner in the ACT will improve process for suffering families | ABC News” – below is their description.
The ACT Government has committed $3.8 million to appoint a full-time special magistrate for 12 months as well as an ongoing dedicated coroner.
Bereaved families and the chief magistrate have been lobbying for the creation of the position for years, to clear the backlog of inquests and reduce the long wait facing families and loved ones.
But expectations are also high there’ll be changes to the way the court operates, to make it friendlier and more effective.
