New “Batman” comic marks step forward for diversity

Global News published this video item, entitled “New “Batman” comic marks step forward for diversity” – below is their description.

DC Comics is introducing a new “Batman” in its latest series of comic books.

A Black character will take the mantle of the Caped Crusader, with Oscar-winning Black writer John Ridley powering his story.

Ridley says he was thrilled to help in the evolution of a character into one for his kids and other kids of colour who love the stories but have not often seen themselves in them.

But as Phil Carpenter reports, the comic book industry still has a long way to go in improving its diversity.
