Global News published this video item, entitled “Netanyahu rival tapped to try and form Israel government as PM struggles to retain power” – below is their description.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rival, centrist politician Yair Lapid, was tapped by President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday to try to form government after March’s election left no party with a majority once again.
Netanyahu has been trying to form a coalition after his party still earned the most seats, 30, but time ran out Tuesday at midnight, opening the door to Lapid’s opportunity to try.
The prime minister is still on trial, facing charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. As Sean Previl explains, the new potential prime minister has only 28 days to form a coalition of his own.
