Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “Neighbors of Surfside, Florida Condo Feel ‘Safe’ Despite Collapse” – below is their description.
Philip Zyne and his wife Nora are staying put in their fifth-floor condominium at Champlain Towers North, constructed by the same developer that built the condo building that collapsed. Both the South and North Towers were erected in 1981.
Champlain Towers North sits about 100 yards (about 91 meters) away and parallel to the Atlantic Ocean from Champlain Towers South.
The Zynes bought their condo at Champlain Towers North about 12 years ago and have lived there full time for the past six years.
They have several friends and acquaintances who lived in the south tower and remain missing since it crumbled early Thursday.
Zyne said most of his neighbors seem to be staying as well. He says he’s seen numerous inspectors in his building since the collapse and only a small number of people packing up to go.
“We know people who live in the building that collapsed, so obviously – even if we didn’t know the people, to see the building falling down, whether it’s a similar building or not, even if it’s a different entire building, I mean, if that building could fall down, your building could fall down,” Zyne said. “So that obviously would stir emotions. But again, I’m not jumping to conclusions. I’m not scared. I’m not running away. I want to see what happened and whether our buildings safe, whether it’s safe.”Bloomberg Quicktake: Now YouTube Channel
