7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “National aged care workers STRIKE in first co-ordinated action | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
For the first time ever, aged care workers from multiple states will go on strike today across the country. Thousands of staff from more than 130 facilities in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia are walking off the job. They’re demanding increased pay and better staffing levels after what they call ‘years of neglect’. A recent study found that the median wage of an aged care support worker is around 28-dollars an hour. Joining Sunrise for a LIVE interview is Aged Care Director Carolyn Smith from the United Workers Union.
