The eastern Chinese city of Nanjing reported 48 new local transmissions on Wednesday, bringing the total number of domestic cases to 155 in Jiangsu Province, more than a week after a cluster was first reported at the city’s international airport. Earlier, city officials had confirmed that the more contagious Delta variant was responsible for the recent infections in Nanjing. As of Wednesday, Nanjing has finished building six testing labs, adding to the city’s 35 testing locations, capable of testing 7 million people a day. The city now has 40 medium and high risk areas with tighter movement restrictions. Nationwide, China reported a total of 86 new confirmed cases, including imported infections. The other local cases are in Sichuan, Liaoning and Yunnan provinces.
