Namibia: More than 7,000 dead seals found along coast, according to NGO

The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Namibia: More than 7,000 dead seals found along coast, according to NGO” – below is their description.

Thousands of dead seal pups were found at Pelican Point peninsula, a tourist destination known for its colony of seals and school of dolphins. According to Ocean Conservation Namibia, more than 7,000 dead seals were found washed ashore on the coast of Namibia. The NGO says starvation was the most probable cause as fish, the seals’ main source of food, but other reasons could be toxins or disease and nothing could be ruled out without a full study. Reuters’ video footage shows that dead seals had also washed onto the shore of Namibian port city, Walvis Bay. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources said it would send samples to South Africa to determine the cause of death. The ministry was not immediately available for comment.
