The Azerbaijani defence ministry said on Wednesday that the country’s military took control over Kalbajar district of Nagorno-Karabakh in accordance with the ceasefire agreement. The video released by the ministry showed military vehicles and armoured personnel carriers (APCs) with Azeri flags driving on roads, as well as soldiers with Azeri flags celebrating. Another video released on Thursday by the Russian defence ministry showed Russian peacekeepers talking to Azeri military as they secured the handover of the area near the Dadivank monastery in Kalbajar district. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a Russia-brokered ceasefire on Nov. 10 that halted six weeks of clashes in the mountain enclave, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but is mainly populated by ethnic Armenians. Around 2000 Russian peacekeepers have been deployed in the enclave under the ceasefire deal, which locked in Azeri advances.
