Protesters returned to the streets in cities across Myanmar once again on Thursday, one day after 38 people were killed in the most violent single day since protests against the military coup began.
Demonstrators faced off with police once again, with police deploying tear gas and sounds of gunfire being heard. There was, however, no immediate word on potential injuries or deaths.
The United Nations’ Human Rights Office called for an end to the “vicious crackdown” after many were killed the day previous, with China also speaking out, saying they would continue to play a “constructive role” in easing the situation and called for restraint by all parties.
Even as protests continued, hundreds gathered in northern Myanmar to mourn and remember a 19-year-old woman who was killed in Wednesday’s crackdown. Angel, known as Kyai Sin, was honoured by people singing revolutionary songs and chanting anti-coup slogans.
