Muslim protesters in Mumbai, India took to the streets on June 6, 2022 to protest against remarks made by the spokeswoman for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nupur Sharma was accused of making anti-Muslim insults during her comments in a televised debate. The BJP subsequently suspended Sharma and she has issued an apology on Twitter, but anger about her words has since spread to predominantly Muslim nations including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan.
