Turkey’s president joined thousands of people for the first Friday prayers at the Hagia Sophia in more than 80 years.
The 1,500-year-old site is revered by both Christians and Muslims.
It was converted from a museum to a mosque after a Turkish court ruling earlier this month – a decision criticised by many Christian leaders.
