The pear-shaped stringed instrument pipa has been around for over 2,000 years. It is prominent in Chinese opera orchestras and as a solo instrument. The name of this melody, “See All Flowers on Trees within One Day,” comes from a well-known Tang Dynasty poem written by poet Meng Jiao. The poem expresses the poet’s thrill at passing the imperial civil services examination.
