The regulator responsible for overseeing gambling in the UK was called “toothless” and accused of failing to control the industry effectively.
MPs say the Gambling Commission, part of the government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), is too slow to act and “doesn’t have targets to reduce the level of problem gambling” in the UK, which affects nearly 400,000 people.
They are calling on the government to overhaul the Gambling Act, publish a league table of gambling operators and address the impact of fixed-odds betting available to children.
