Italy’s Mount Etna erupted for the fourth time in four days over the weekend, spewing lava and rocks, and according to scientists, it was one of its strongest episodes in recent years.
The spectacular bursts sent lava flowing for miles down its slopes and created lava fountains.
According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), debris from the eruption was expelled more than one kilometer above the volcano in “one of the strongest paroxysmal episodes” taken place on the island of Sicily.
So far there have been no injuries or damage in the surrounding area.
