Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is hailing what he calls a victory over tyranny and barbarism, after his army finally re-took Mosul from ISIL.
Monday’s announcement brings to an end a nearly nine-month offensive against the armed group.
But the city now faces a humanitarian crisis, with neighbourhoods destroyed and almost a million people displaced.
