Mosul battle: Hundreds of thousands caught in urban warfare – BBC News

Islamic State fighters inside Mosul are now trapped, they can’t escape and they won’t survive. That’s what the US official in-charge of co-ordinating the fight against IS has said, after Iraqi forces cut off the last road out of the city. Around 600-thousand civilians are believed to be still being held by the extremists. Our correspondent Orla Guerin and cameraman Nico Hameon are with Iraqi forces – you may find parts of their report distressing.
