Morocco: Protests continue in Northern Rif region

Preparations are underway for next Monday’s African Union summit, one that marks the formal and complete return of Morocco into the club of continental nations. This after decades of conflict over its annexation of Western Sahara. On the world stage, King Mohammed the 6th can boast growing trade and influence. Morocco’s even entering the Ecowas group of West African nations, making his country even more of a conduit between the continent and Europe. But that image abroad’s in stark contrast with the anger that’s spilled over in the northern Rif region, where the death of a fishmonger as he tried to salvage his confiscated catch has continued to spiral.
