Channel 4 News published this video item, entitled “More than 100 women accuse police officers of domestic abuse” – below is their description.
At least 129 women have accused police officers of domestic abuse in the last two years, Channel 4 News can exclusively reveal. Since 2019, over 100 women have approached the Centre for Women’s Justice (CWJ) with claims of being raped, beaten and coerced by their police officer partners.
In most cases their alleged abuser is either still serving or has retired with a clean record. One former police commander described the sheer amount of officer perpetrated domestic abuse as an “epidemic” within the force.
Some victims blamed a “boys club” culture of cover-ups and closing ranks that made survivors feel they were being silenced. The Home Office said it expected allegations of domestic abuse by police officers to be “investigated thoroughly” and appropriate action taken.
