Monkeypox: New York 2nd major city to declare emergency as cases spread across US

Global News published this video item, entitled “Monkeypox: New York 2nd major city to declare emergency as cases spread across US” – below is their description.

New York has declared a public health emergency on Saturday due to the spread of Monkeypox, becoming the second major U.S. city to do so after San Francisco.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is reporting almost 5,200 cases of Monkeypox across the United States. In New York, the city’s mayor says 150,000 people could be at risk of infection.

The move comes after a panel of scientists and activists at the AIDS 2022 conference in Montreal urge worldwide governments to ramp up resources to handle Monkeypox outbreaks.

As Jennifer Johnson reports, critics say the U.S. government may have lost the chance to contain the virus.
