Monkeypox explained by NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Monkeypox explained by NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant | 7NEWS” – below is their description.

Monkeypox: “The infection is usually a mild illness for most people. And most people recover in a few weeks, but some people can experience more serious illness. You are infectious whilst you’re unwell. And that extends while the lesions are open. Cases of monkeypox have recently been confirmed in Europe and North America. And this includes the UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, the US and Canada. A large proportion of the cases overseas are amongst gay, bisexual or men who have sex with men. And we are particularly urging men who are gay, bisexual or men who have sex with men to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions” – NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant.

A Sydney man is in isolation, along with a man in Melbourne, as Australia confirms its first ever cases of monkeypox.

Health authorities say they’ll conduct contact tracing for both men who’ve returned from overseas, but are warning us all to be on alert for symptoms including a tell-tale rash.
