Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “Miss Grand Myanmar Speaks Out Against Military at Pageant” – below is their description.
Myanmar beauty queen Han Lay made international headlines when she spoke out against the country’s military at the Miss Grand International event in Thailand.
“We need your urgent international help right now,” says the 22-year-old model. “Why do innocent people, young women and children risk their lives?”
While she did not take home the crown, she says she hopes to continue to speak out against the country’s military and call for help.
Hundreds of pro-democracy protesters have been killed in the two months since the military coup sparked daily street protests in the major cities.
Nearly all of the protests have been nonviolent, but as police and soldiers have increased their use of lethal force, some participants have armed themselves with homemade weapons such as gasoline bombs for self-defense. In Kalay, some residents took up simple but deadly homemade hunting rifles.
And in recent weeks, the military has also stepped up its campaign against the country’s ethnic groups – carrying out deadly airstrikes that have forced thousands from their homes.
“I actually hope that the situation in Myanmar very end soon, because so many people die in Myanmar and we all want just humanity,” says Han Lay.Bloomberg Quicktake: Now YouTube Channel
