Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan said Wednesday that the military would be sent into Manitoba Indigenous communities to help with the vaccine rollout effort in these communities.

Sajjan made the announcement during a media availability alongside Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller, and the acting chief of the defence staff Lt.-Gen. Wayne Eyre.

Canadian Forces members will begin arriving in Thompson, Man., on Thursday, he said.

Army medical personnel will administer vaccinations, while logistics personnel will set up a vaccination clinic and help transport community members.

Operations are expected to begin on March 29.
