Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “Migrants Cross Border at Night as Mexico Authorities Crack Down” – below is their description.
With Mexico’s immigration authorities encouraging them to turn themselves in, migrants frantically crossed the Rio Grande river into the United States, with high water and very little visibility.
Some who crossed are the remnants of a group that was surrounded by Mexican police in the early hours of Thursday.
They found themselves in between police trucks and the border river.
At least a hundred crossed earlier and others argued with immigration officials about their options to stay in Mexico.
If remaining in Mexico, they were offered to be transported to Tapachula, in the southern Mexican border and home of the largest migration detention center in Latin America.
In previous days immigration officials and the National Guard have raided the park, detaining migrants.
As of Thursday, about 4,000 migrants remained under the bridge between Texas and Mexico, Department of Homeland Security officials said.
Mexico’s immigration agency had estimated late Wednesday there were as many as 600 migrants in Ciudad Acuña.
Another camp on the US side, at the Texas border where close to 15,000 migrants were waiting a few days ago was dramatically smaller by dawn Thursday.Bloomberg Quicktake: Now YouTube Channel
