Michoacan turf war: Mexican town on frontline of cartel conflict

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Michoacan turf war: Mexican town on frontline of cartel conflict” – below is their description.

The Mexican state of Michoacan is at the centre of a turf war between a powerful drug cartel and self-ascribed defence groups.

The state – like other parts of the country – will vote in local elections next month.

And it has been a violent run-up. At least 80 candidates have been killed.

Al Jazeera’s John Holman looks at how the government seems to have left people to fend for themselves.
