Michael Gove has just floated the idea of contact tracing pilots on “island communities” before it is rolled out to the rest of the country.
Asked about nations lifting the lockdown at different times to each other, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster told MPs of the Public Administration and Constitutional Committee (PACAC): “My own personal view is preferable if we do it as one United Kingdom but island communities might be an area where you could pilot areas such as contact tracing.
Mr Gove noted that Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely had suggested that we may trial contact tracing there “before it is rolled out nation-wide and if we do that we might be able to use the Isle of Wight as an opportunity to see how we can relax those measures”.
He added: “Similar suggestions have been made by some of the island communities in Scotland but that is a matter for the Scottish government.”
