One of the world’s richest men, Michael Bloomberg, has been savaged by his rivals after surging into contention for the Democratic Party’s nomination to take on Donald Trump at November’s election.

The billionaire appeared in his first nationally televised debate claiming he’s the only person with the resources to boot the polarising US President out of the White House.
