Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “Mexico City Residents Search for Missing Family Members After Overpass Collapse” – below is their description.
Relatives continued to desperately search for their missing loved ones in hospitals across Mexico City Tuesday morning after an overpass of the city’s metro collapsed Monday night.
The collapse sent a train plunging toward a road, trapping at least one car under rubble and killing at least 23 people.
Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum has said people could still be trapped inside the train, which plunged toward a busy boulevard.
Cristian Segura Osorio stood outside a hospital searching for his sister Angelica Segura Osorio, who he believes would have been travelling on that metro wagon when the incident took place.
He said the mother of two was not answering calls to her cell phone or Whatsapp messages. She also doesn’t appear in the patient list of several hospitals where they’ve searched for her.
Early Tuesday, he and his brother Jesus Segura Osorio stood outside the third hospital where they’ve searched for their sister Angelica, who is 43 or 44 years of age, since they learned about the metro collision on social media late Monday.
“If someone has seen her or knows anything, please help us,” Cristian Segura Osorio said as he showed a photo of his missing sister wearing a yellow and black uniform.
Haydé Magalán got a call from a woman who said she’d picked up her husband’s cell phone.
Magalán said that the caller informed her that “she had picked up my husband’s cell phone, that she had picked several of them, to alert their relatives that they were in the wagons that were involved in the accident.”
She last saw her 37-year-old husband as he was headed out for work as a taxi driver at 5 a.m.
She added that the caller had told her that her husband had been taken from the crash site, and that the third hospital she visited had his name on a list.
The accident was one of the deadliest for the city’s subway system, which is among the busiest in the world.
One subway car left was dangling, and rescuers searched it for a time.
Those efforts were suspended early Tuesday because of concerns for the workers’ safety.
A crane was brought in to help shore up the car. Officials say about 70 people were injured.Bloomberg Quicktake: Now YouTube Channel
