Mexico is the first country in Latin America and the fourth in the world to approve use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The number of infections and deaths in Mexico is rising and with more than 11,000 new daily infections. Mexico City has declared a COVID emergency.

Brazil is one of many Latin American countries pinning their hopes on the promise of mass vaccinations against coronavirus.

And with Latin American economies being hit hard by the pandemic, Christmas this year is unlikely to bring much respite.

Al Jazeera’s Daniel Schweimler reports from the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires.
