Former Prime Minister Theresa May has defended Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick after an investigation into the death of private investigator Daniel Morgan in 1987 censured her for obstruction, and saying the force was ‘institutionally corrupt’.

The report’s authors found that the force’s first objective was to protect its own reputation – and said the force had misled both the public and the family.

  

But Mrs May, who commissioned the report when she was Home Secretary, told Sky News Dame Cressida was an “exceptionally able officer”, who would ensure the Met now takes the steps it needs to take.
