    Precious moments in the nation’s history will be preserved for future generations after the National Archives of Australia was granted $67.7 million in urgent federal funding.

    Since last year historians, journalists and academics have been lobbying the government to fund a rescue operation.

    Service records of World War II soldiers, recordings of John Curtin’s war-time speeches and tapes of the Stolen Generation royal commission were among priceless historical records Australia was at risk of losing if the national institution did not receive the funding.
