They talk the need for more diversity in Canadian politics, COVID-19 and the upcoming byelection in her riding. Paul won the biggest leadership contest the Greens have ever had in Ottawa on Saturday evening on the eighth ballot with 12,090 votes in a race that saw 69 per cent of party members vote. Nearly 35,000 people were eligible to vote, nearly 10 times as many as turned out for the last leadership election in 2006 when former party leader Elizabeth May won. As a highly developed country, Canada has the seventeenth-highest nominal per-capita income globally as well as the thirteenth-highest ranking in the Human Development Index. Its advanced economy is the tenth-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks.
