Here’s a look inside Australia’s only medical mask factory, Med-Con, as demand rises during the coronavirus pandemic.
“”Pre-Covid-19 we were producing about 2 million masks per annum. Now, at the moment, we’re producing about 1 to 2 million a week,” says Steve Csiszar, co-founder of Med-Con, an Australian-based provider of clinical protective apparel and disposable medical clothing.
“We were a sleepy little operation,” says Csiszar. But times are very different now.
The coronavirus outbreak and trade frictions with China has seen the company’s fortunes transformed. They have just secured a five-year contract to supply surgical masks to the Australian government.
And the target for the end of the year?
“59 million masks.”
